Understand what you want. Gaining an understanding of your business and what you want to accomplish is my first priority. Knowing where you are taking your business, as well as understanding the values and standards that guide your operations are essential to producing results. Be honest and straightforward. Once I have formed specific recommended actions and validated any conclusions, I will give you reasoned, honest, clear recommendations with no inclination to tell you what I think you want to hear. Help people succeed. People are the key to change, not steps, processes or budgets. I help people build on their strengths; and I will address any problematic areas in their performance. My proprietary coaching program, Manager Makeover (featured in The Chicago Tribune, 10/31/2001) helps individuals incorporate the insights and see lasting results. Get commitment and accountability. Engage the company’s management team, gain the support of influencers in the organization and engage all appropriate levels of associates to make certain that the effort will be successful. Communicate a clear action plan and timelines so that accountability can be expected and measured. Establish effective feedback to and between all stakeholders. Deliver value. Offer perceptive insights that can be translated into valuable benefits for the organization. Be conscious of the company’s resources (time, people, monetary) and work within the capabilities, infrastructure and business processes to achieve desired results.
